Al habla and Al aparato are used in several countries. In Spain people answer the telephone with Digame, Diga, Dime, or ¿Sí? 1. What does Lola say when she answers the phone? 2 How do you answer the telephone? 3. Is it unusual to get a phone call at 1 a.m. at your house? Why or why not? Don y doña The words don (used in addressing a man) and doña (used in addressing a woman) are titles of respect in Spanish that have no equivalents in English. They are commonly used and written in lower case unless they are abbreviated. The abbreviations for don (D.) and doña (Dª.) are always capitalized. Don and doña are used before a person's first name, whether or not it is followed by the last name: Don Miguel está aquí. D. Miguel Sánchez está a quí. Doña María es mi profesora. Dª. María Castro es mi profesora. Don and doña are used without the last name to show respect and closeness when talking to someone: ¿Cómo está, don Miguel? Doña Isabel, ¿cómo está su familia? 1. Go online to find two other newspapers from Spain. Place links to these papers underneath the NOTICIAS section of your website. Scan the papers for some articles and see how much you can understand. Remember to look for cognates.
